Planting onions sets is easy and rewarding and can be done anytime from now, when the soil is workable.
We have a huge selection of varieties available this year – in fact the best ever!
Among the traditional and well proven onion varieties are ‘Sturon’ and ‘Stuttgarter Giant’, both provide excellent yields and are brilliant for storing. Newer varieties such as ‘Hercules’ and ‘Centurion’ have been bred for improved performance.
Of course if planning some onions this year do remember shallots, which are so loved in classical French cookery. ‘Picasso’ is one of the best varieties and can be harvested earlier than most other varieties. It’s also resistant to bolting.
